Christian Formation for Children and Youth

Godly Play

Godly Play is our exciting new curriculum for children grades Pre-K through 6. Written and developed by Episcopal Priest, Jerome Berryman, Godly Play applies the method and philosophy of Maria Montessori to Christian education. Teachers tell sacred stories, parables, and liturgical actions using hands-on story materials. Children are invited to respond through play with the story materials or through art. Godly Play is designed to provide a space for children to encounter God and to develop language for that encounter.

Classes take place in the Church School Room, third floor of the Parish House, on Sundays following the 10am service.

The children presented on Christmas eve their recreation of the Christmas story. To see some scenes from this celebration as well as hearing some of their singing, click here. (The glimpse may take a while to load and requires Microsoft's Midia Play software.)

Journey to Adulthood

Journey to Adulthood, is our new curriculum for youth ages 12 and up. Through a combination of study of Scripture and the Book of Common Prayer, discussion and fellowship, students work to develop a deeper understanding of their faith and tradition and work toward preparation for confirmation. Classes meet in the Youth Room, third floor of the Parish House, on Sundays following the 10am service.

Children's Liturgy

Children are invited to gather in the Holy Spirit Chapel, located at the back of the Cathedral, following the reading of the Gospel at the 10am service. They are lead in a simple liturgy in which they hear sacred stories, sing songs, and pray. Children rejoin their families at the offering.

Nursery/Child Care

Child care for children ages 0-6 is provided for all Sunday morning activities and Wednesday night adult education activities in the church nursery located in the church basement off the Walker Room. Staff are Red Cross certified in infant and child CPR and first aid and follow NY state guidelines for health and safety of the facility. The nursery staff view their work as a ministry to young children in our church.
